Laptop FAQs

Hello EVHS Families!

We wanted to connect with you about the MacBook Air as we have fielded a few messages during this time away from school. In an effort to best answer your questions, please reference the FAQ below:

·      What happens if my laptop starts to ask for “admin permission” in order to run different programs?

o   Updates are continually being pushed out to the MacBook’s just as they would if you were at school. Because the laptops have not connected to the school district internet, it is causing problems like this because of the updates. If this occurs, you may take your laptop to the parking lot of any of our schools (elementary, middle or high) and connect while sitting in your car and allow the laptops to update. This will fix this issue.

·      What should I do if my laptop becomes damaged?

o   At this time, we are not able to complete repairs on the MacBook’s. It is very important that you follow the laptop use guidelines discussed with you each year including:

§  No food or drink near the laptops

§  Keep your laptop in the case when it is not in use

§  Store the laptop, case and charger in a safe place away from animals, etc. where damage may occur

§  When moving about your house, please carry the laptop with two hands and with the lid closed

o   If your laptop becomes damaged, do not take it to an outside agency (Geek Squad, etc.) to be repaired. This voids the warranty our district has with Apple. Please email Mrs. Himmerich ( and she will work to help provide a solution to the issue.

·      My laptop won’t charge anymore, can’t I just buy one from Amazon?

o   No. Please do not purchase the chargers from Amazon as we cannot guarantee that the charger being sold to you will properly work with the MacBook. The wrong charger can end up causing the battery in the laptop to overheat causing the computer to become severely damaged and irreparable. Please email Mrs. Himmerich ( and she will work to help provide a solution to the issue.

·      I am having trouble with Zoom and it loading correctly, what should I do?

o   Teachers may be inviting students to participate in Zoom meetings to support distance learning. The Zoom application has been set to auto-install on student MacBooks. You can verify the app has been installed by going to the Launchpad on the dock (app menu on bottom of screen). If you do not see the Zoom app, you can download it from Self-Service, also located on the dock. We recommend you also restart your laptop.

·      How do I add my at home printer?
Students are able to add any printer that is configured and supports AirPrint. I have attached a link to Apple's guide on how to add a printer on a MacBook - I have also attached an article from Apple that was published on January 07, 2020  that shows a list of printers that support Airprint -

We want to ensure that students have a fully functioning laptop in order to stay engaged with their learning during this time away from the school. Please help to ensure the safe use of the MacBook’s within your home and contact Mrs. Himmerich with any questions or concerns. Please stay healthy and stay safe!
